What Are People Saying About Us?
A letter from one of our Site Partners:
I just wanted to say thanks again for all your work in helping
to establish the relationship between St. Stephens and Generations
Incorporated. It has been a fantastic year for our kids and it is
clear how much they love working with the tutors and even, most
of the time, reading itself. Your site coordinator has been outstanding
in coordinating the volunteers, the kids, and making the experience
fun for everyone. In past parent evaluations, we would frequently
hear from parents their desire that we help the children more with
their homework; that no longer comes up in evaluations and I attribute
it in large part to Generations Incorporated.
One of our kids in our program has been having a hard time in school
and at home. She refused to participate in choir, in part, I think,
because singing makes her feel her emotions and she is sad these
days. She sat in my office for a while and, having worked with her
before, I asked if she wanted to do some art.
When I asked her, after our "art therapy", if she felt
better, she said "Yeah, like Frieda" and I was stunned,
said "Frieda Kahlo?" and she said "Yeah, she painted
her pain away" and then gave Kahlo's whole biography about
the blue house in Mexico, the cable car accident, how she was sick
in bed for a year. She also asked if I had seen Kahlo's paintings
and said she thought the art was "amazing". How did she
know about Frieda Kahlo? she read about her in Generations Incorporated.
Best,
